STone and Simulink for practical programming, easily, quickly and reliably

At SPS Italia, held on 29 May, CAREL was hosted by MathWorks, a world-leading developer of mathematical computing software, to present the integration of its new STone programming tool with MATLAB – Simulink.

Universally-recognised as a standard in modelling software, MATLAB – Simulink is a block diagram environment used to design systems with multi-domain models and perform simulations before loading onto the hardware. The integration of this language into STone was announced at SPS, Italy’s premier industrial automation and digital event, in a presentation entitled “The Path to Innovation: Modelling, Simulation and Programming of Automatic Systems with MATLAB and Simulink”. Integrating CAREL and MATLAB software means being able to use advanced models and simulations directly in an HVAC/R development environment: this integrated workflow allows programmers to seamlessly transfer the control logic from the simulation models to the practical programming stage, reducing the need to recreate the logic from scratch. Consequently, R&D teams can focus on innovation and continuous improvement, rather than solving redundant problems.

One of STone’s strengths is indeed the ability to integrate with third-party software, offering an HVAC/R software development environment that communicates with the best available technologies. This compatibility not only reduces programming times, but also increases the reliability of the machine logic created.

During the presentation the speakers previewed how the use of advanced models and simulations developed in MATLAB - Simulink and then imported into the HVAC/R development environment can significantly reduce development times, increasing the reliability of the control logic.
